West Hobart defeat Friends 2-nil

The game was awesome! The weather was wonderful!! The parents were perfect!!! We won, two–nil, Bella and Alice Cox being our scorers, Alice’s dance after scoring was delightful.

I think it was one of the best games we have played so far. It is nice to note that the Friend’s goalie was Sarah Castle–Lynch who was a founding member of the team up until her move to Friends school two years ago; it was lovely to see her again.

An outstanding first half was played by ‘AJ’ Anna Jamison. She repeatedly drove the ball down the right wing and deep into Friends goal area in a series of savage attacks, which if there was any justice in the world, should have resulted in at least one goal.

Millie, Anna and Nadia were also excellent in attack, how does Millie always manage to smile as she plays? Our defensive line up, based on its core of Alice and Rosie; often referred to in awed whispers as the ‘Rocks of Gibraltar’ for their rock solid defensive work were ... rock solid.

Josie and Jacinta also played well in their respective positions.

It is great to see the team really talking to and encouraging each other, which is a real sign of the team’s maturity.

Special mentions to young Paul S-M for refereeing the entire game and doing so in such a competent manner and our ‘Coach Cory’ for his ability to remain cool, calm and collected when the rest of the parents are throwing themselves about with excitement or anguish.

See you all again next time - Karen and Stephen (Bella's mum and dad)

And hello to the parents who came along ...

And more of the team ...

West Hobart stars eclipse Supernova

West Hobart v. Princes Street Supernova
Score: 1 - nil win to West Hobart
Goals: Anna Jamison
Goalies: Amber and Bella

After a good warmup before the game, West Hobart started in confident fashion on a beautiful morning at Olinda Grove. The Princes Street team were low on players so West Hobart lent them Jacinta and Josie to even up the numbers.

In the first half, West Hobart had the ball at their end much of the time, but no goals resulted until AJ slipped it past several Princes Street defenders (and their goalie) to get a score on the board (see first photo). AJ was wearing yet another beautiful scrunchie from her extensive botanical range.

A penalty kick was awarded to Princes Street when a West Hobart player accidentally touched the ball with her hand but no equalizer resulted. See the photo below (ball arrowed).

No further goals were scored in the the second half although play was more even between the teams.

Bijou, Alice C and Alice F on the backline did a strong job repelling the more determined Princes Street players and Rosie's great work around the midfield prevented many balls from getting any further. Nadia, Millie, Bella and AJ all worked together on the forward line.

Rhianna retired hurt after her injured ankle received another blow - we all hope you're back soon.

Well done to Jacinta, Josie and Alice F (briefly in the second half) who played for the other team, as your good sportmanship meant a better game for everybody!

Finally, let's salute some of the parents and dedicated chauffeurs, including these three chaps hiding behind sunglasses. We know who you are ...

West Hobart hold Whirlwind to 1-all draw

West Hobart v Waimea Whirlwinds: 1-1
Goalies were: Josie and Alice Fiddyment
Goal scorer: Anna Jamison

West Hobart started sleepily and much of the play in the first 15 minutes was dominated by Waimea. The West Hobart defence line came under immediate attack but strong work by Jacinta, Alice C and Alice F held off the worst of the sustained pressure from the Waimea.

West Hobart was unlucky to concede a goal early in this half, but AJ scored a nifty goal later to equalise the scores at 1-1.

The second quarter saw a much more coordinated effort from the entire West Hobart team, particularly the forward line which began to pass well to each other. Nadia did a great job repeatedly reaching loose balls in front of the opposition and moving them forward toward goal, skilfully evading attempts by Waimea to block her.

West Hobart had many shots at goal but weren't able to clinch another one, the scores at the end remaining the same.
