West Hobart wins by a goal in thriller

West Hobart v. Princes St Supernova
Final Score: 1 – 0

Goal Scorer: Nadia

Goalies: Rhianna and Alice F

Supernova began the game with only ten players, while West Hobart had eleven, then twelve after a late arrival. There was lots of action in the first half, with Jacinta showing drive and persistence running the ball goalwards.

Anna S-M blocked and defended well, and got some well-placed kicks away to help West Hobart out of trouble. An accomplished save from goalie Rhianna stopped an otherwise certain score by Princes Street.

At half time, the score stood at nil-all.

During the second half, West Hobart's better control of the midfield meant we were monopolising play but our repeated shots at goal were frustrated because none found their mark. We were finally rewarded with a goal, set up by Bella with a great cross kick which was skilfully tapped in by Nadia.

Goalie Alice F showed courage under fire with several great saves and kick-outs. Both our goalies made every one of their touches count, although they weren’t high in number. Their well-placed kicks helped put West Hobart back into attack.

Don’t forget - next week, West Hobart has a bye.

West Hobart defeats Dominic 4-1

West Hobart vs Dominic
Final Score: 4 -1
Goal scorers: Alice C - 2, AJ - 1, Josie - 1
Goalies: Jacinta and Alice C

West Hobart played well to defeat a spirited Dominic team. We controlled the midfield in the first half, making it difficult for Dominic to get the ball into their forward zone. Rosie did a great job turning around any plays that threatened to break through West Hobart's defences.

The forward line including Millie and Nadia had several attempts on goal which were saved by the Dominic goalie, before Alice C who was loitering around the top of the goal square waiting for loose balls, thumped a couple into the back of the net. The score was 2 nil at half time.

The second half was livelier due to Dominic's persistent attacks. Their hard-working forwards made many goals shots, however AJ was rewarded with a goal for her dogged play.

Josie also scored after persistently pushing through the Dominic defence. Our forwards were helped into attack by strong kick-outs from our goalies in both halves.

Final score 4-1.

IMPORTANT! No training this Wednesday 14 July, as Cory will be absent, but there's definitely a match on Saturday. West Hobart will be playing Princes Street Supernova at Olinda Grove ground at 9am.

West Hobart lose by a goal in Heart-stopper

West Hobart v. Sacred Heart
Final Score: 3 - 4 (win to Sacred Heart)
Goal Scorers: Alice C - 2, Jacinta - 1
Goalies: Rosie and Anna S-M

It was an evenly paced game for much of the first half. Sacred Heart was first to post a score but 10 minutes later, West Hobart responded with an equalising goal from Alice C's powerful boot.

Bella worked hard in defence, repelling repeated attacks from the Sacred Heart forward line. AJ was as persistent as ever in midfield, pushing the ball into attack despite battling with opposition team members twice her size.

At the end of the first half, the score remained at 1 - 1.

The second half began with a strong push from a very determined Sacred Heart team who quickly moved the score to 3 -1 after twice successfully penetrating the valiant West Hobart defence.

West Hobart fought back with a lovely high goal from Jacinta with 10 minutes to go. A draw was looking a real possibility when Alice C scored a second goal on rebound from the keeper after a first attempt.

Four minutes to go and the score was 4 - 3 to Sacred Heart! Although our forwards chased hard for an equalizer, it was not to be, with the score at the final whistle unchanged.

Well done to Lauren Wilson who defended and tackled strongly, contributing to a solid effort from the West Hobart backline. Anna S-M also did a sterling job as goalie in the second half under heavy fire from Sacred Heart and although a few goals found their way in, many more were bravely defended.

Next week: West Hobart v. Dominic at Dominic College at 10.00am
