Friends, but we won 2-0

West Hobart v. Friends
Final Score 2 – 0
Goal Scorers: Nadia and Rhianna
Goalies: Amber and Nadia

Another win - well done! Although much of the play was down the West Hobart end in the first half, a determined Friends defence line (including Alice C as a "loaner") repelled the frequent West Hobart attacks. Meanwhile, Millie was a very effective attacker for us around the goal square and almost scored several times.

West Hobart also had its chances from several corner kicks but - like Friends - couldn’t convert these into scores on the board. Eventually Nadia manoeuvred her way past the defenders and found the goal easily from close range.

The second half saw a new line-up on the forward line including Josie, Lauren and Alice F. AJ played strongly from the mid-line and pushed through persistently toward goal. Rhianna connected strongly with a loose ball at the top of the goal square to shoot home another goal, to bring the final score to 2-nil.

Well done to Jacinta and Alice C for volunteering to play with the Friends team to make up the numbers. Thanks to Nick and Calum for helping out with coaching and umpiring duties while Cory was away.

Taroona trumps West Hobart 3-1

West Hobart vs Taroona Black
Olinda Grove - 19 June 2010
Goal scorer: Millie
Goalies: Lauren and Millie

This game was full of action from the opening kick. Taroona is a fast-running side with good teamwork and passing skills but West Hobart defended its goal effectively in the first half thanks to Rosie, Jacinta and Alice F, who kept the ball from passing midfield. We were unlucky to concede a goal, but Millie scored an equaliser just before half time.

After the break, Taroona proved stronger and more consistent, and were rewarded with another two goals. West Hobart lost its focus although AJ and Nadia continued to attack hard; Josie also played consistently well, but Taroona's defence was just too strong. The final score was 3-1.

We were pleased to welcome Peter Marmion, headmaster at Lansdowne Crescent. He told us of his intention to visit all 39 sports teams associated with the school!
